Setting up a Maximized Click Campaign for A-B Testing

The objective of this SOP is to guide team members on how to share access to a Google Ads account. This will allow them to collaborate and work on the account with other users.

Objective:

To set up a maximized click campaign for A-B testing when a campaign has seen zero conversions over the past two to four weeks, especially for accounts with small budgets or campaigns that seem to be stalling.

Key Steps:

  1. Access Google Ads and navigate to the campaigns section.
  2. Click on campaign settings.
  3. Change the bid strategy to maximize conversions.
  4. Set the bid strategy to “clicks.”
  5. Determine and set a maximum cost per click (CPC) around the industry average to avoid overspending.
  6. Monitor the campaign closely for the next 2-4 weeks for negative keywords to optimize performance.
  7. Manage search terms by reviewing them regularly, selecting irrelevant terms, and adding them as negative keywords.

Cautionary Notes:

  • Prioritize other A-B tests before resorting to maximized clicks, as it has a lower success rate.
  • This method is more suitable for smaller accounts due to its focus on generating cheap clicks.
  • Be cautious of overspending on expensive clicks by setting a reasonable maximum CPC.
  • Regularly monitor and adjust the campaign to ensure optimal performance.

Tips for Efficiency:

  • Utilize industry averages to set a maximum CPC quickly.
  • Watch a tutorial on managing search terms effectively to enhance campaign performance.
  • Regularly review and update negative keywords to refine targeting and reduce irrelevant clicks.
