Objective
To change location targeting to presence or interest as a last resort to improve campaign results, specifically for poor performing campaigns.
Key Steps
- Preparation
- Before making any changes, list all countries outside of your target country that you want to exclude from seeing your ads. Key countries for exclusion are India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia.
- Remove any location exclusions that are close to your targeted locations but keep larger areas like states if they are bigger than your target area.
- Exclusion Setup
- Go to your campaign settings and select the campaign you want to edit.
- Navigate to the locations tab and then to location options.
- Choose “presence or interest” and save the changes.
- Monitoring and Adjustment
- Keep a close eye on the performance of the campaign after the changes.
- Monitor the location report in insights and reports, focusing on regions, clicks, impressions, and cost per conversion.
- Exclude any additional locations outside your target region if needed based on the performance data.
Cautionary Notes
- Changing location targeting to presence or interest should only be done for campaigns that are performing poorly as a last resort.
- Excluding key countries and monitoring performance is crucial to avoid spam clicks from international users.
Tips for Efficiency
- Create a detailed location report to track performance effectively.
- Make sure to exclude as many irrelevant locations as possible to improve the effectiveness of the location targeting change.
- Only apply this strategy to campaigns that are not performing well, rather than successful campaigns.
